Raipur: Chhattisgarh, which was once known as a backward state, is now gaining wide recognition for its achievements one after the other. One of the major achievements of Chhattisgarh is the significant growth in production and sales of the herbal products. As a result of Chhattisgarh Government’s consistent efforts, herbal products of the state are now available across the country and the world, including the local market. Chhattisgarh is now on its way to become a herbal state. It is noteworthy that more than 150 value-added products are being produced in Chhattisgarh through State Minor Forest Produce Cooperative Federation.
According to the recently released data, the sale of herbal products of Chhattisgarh has increased by four and a half hundred times, in the last three years alone. Chhattisgarh government has now set the goal to increase the sales of herbal products by one thousand times by the next financial year. It is worth mentioning that in the financial year 2019-20, Chhattisgarh had traded herbal products worth Rs.1.25 crore (1.25 crore). At the same time, herbal products worth Rs. 2 crore 15 lakh were sold in the year 2020-21 and herbal products worth Rs. 4 crore 34 lakh have been sold in the national and the international markets in just 9 months of the current financial year 2021-22.

It is worth mentioning that the work of collection and processing of medicinal plants available in Chhattisgarh is done exclusively by the forest dwellers, while the herbal products are manufactured by women self-help groups in forest areas. These herbal medicines and products are being sold under the brand name of ‘Chhattisgarh Herbals’. Besides the branding of these products, Chhattisgarh Government has adopted new strategies to promote the sale of these products. In the same sequence, 30 Sanjeevani Kendras were started in all the districts of the state, where the indigenous herbal products of Chhattisgarh are being sold. Moreover, products of ‘Chhattisgarh Herbals’ brand have also been made available in Shree Dhanwantri Generic Medical Stores for sale.
Herbal products of Chhattisgarh have also become an important part of the festivals
‘Chhattisgarh Herbals’ is not just confined to the Sanjeevani Kendras in the state. Now these products are being made available in the inter-state festivals held across the country. Products of Chhattisgarh has been featured in International Gulf Food Festival of Dubai, International Indus Food Event of Delhi, Tribal Festival of Delhi, International Herbal Fair of Bhopal, Chhattisgarh Diwali Haat Mela, Rajytsav, ad Mall Exhibitions. Besides, the stalls of Chhattisgarh Herbals have also been an important part of various important programs organized by many government and private organizations.
