Enquiry Committee set up to investigate Gopalganj stampede incident

After the stampede at Durga Puja pandal in Bihar’s Gopalganj a day earlier claimed the lives of three folks together with a five-year-old, a committee has been set up to investigate the matter, an official mentioned on October 24.

“The stampede incident claimed the lives of three people, while 10 others were injured. However, the injured ones are out of danger now. A committee has been set up to investigate the matter. The committee will inquire into the matter under the guidance of the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Goplaganj”, mentioned Gopalganj District Magistrate Nawal Kishore Choudhary whereas addressing the media individuals in Bihar’s Gopalganj.

“A chart route has been prepared to avoid any untoward incidents on the occasion of ‘Vijaya Dashmi’. Heavy police force has been deployed in the district”, he added.

Earlier, in a heart-wrenching incident amid the Durga Puja celebrations, two ladies and a toddler died and greater than ten folks have been injured in a stampede at a crowed pandal in Bihar’s Gopalgunj on Monday (October 23) late night.

The stampede broke out on the Raja Dal Durga Puja pandal throughout ‘Maha Navami’ celebrations and revelry, police mentioned.

The injured pandal-hoppers have been admitted to Sadar Hospital, the police mentioned, including that there was no safety deployment on the pandal to handle crowds, which led to the stampede.

Speaking to ANI, the Gopalganj SP mentioned, “There was a stampede near the gate of Raja Dal Puja Pandal around 8.30 pm. A child fell to the ground and was trampled upon as the revellers ran helter-skelter. Two women rushed to the child’s rescue but also ended up being trampled upon by the crowds. The women gasped for air and succumbed while being rushed to a hospital. The local magistrate and a police team arrived at the spot and took control of the situation.”

Police officers mentioned that the accident occurred due to extreme crowding on the gate of the Puja pandal.
