Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday mentioned the Narendra Modi authorities isn’t taking choices so that folks like them, but for their welfare.

Addressing an occasion to confer ‘The Indian Express Excellence in Governance Awards’, Shah mentioned the works of any authorities, regardless of the ideology, must be appreciated if these are for the advantages of individuals and their good.

“The Modi authorities isn’t taking choices so that folks like them. It is taking choices that profit individuals. We introduced GST and we knew that there have been opposition to it. We introduced DBT (Direct Benefits Transfer) and it was opposed. On events some choices may need been harsh but all had been good for the individuals,” he said.

The home minister said that since independence, the country had seen 22 governments and 15 prime ministers and all of them tried their best for the development of the country with their abilities and available resources.

“Irrespective of ideology, we will have to acknowledge those who have done good work, took good decisions for the welfare of the people,” he mentioned.

Shah mentioned these journalists who should not goal and neutral can’t do good journalism.

“An activist can’t be a journalist and equally a journalist can’t be an activist. Both May be good of their respective fields but can’t do good in each the work. But typically we are able to see such tendencies now a days,” he said.

Paying glowing tributes to Indian Express founder Ram Nath Goenka, Shah said he had played a significant role while opposing the Emergency and giving the country’s first non-Congress government.
